fighting climate change
As our company grows, we want to make sure we’re doing what we can to help fight climate change. Here are just a few of our current and future initiatives:
-
The UK currently generates the second highest amount of e-waste per capita in the world, with predictions stating we will take the lead in 2024. Considering only 20% of e-waste is recycled on average, thats a lot of tech being burnt.
SO, where possible our team invest in refurbished tech and when we need to retire any out of date tech, we donate it to those in need.
-
We made a conscious choice not to have an office space and have a fully flexible and remote team. This reduced our carbon footprint by negating the need for travel and operating a large office space.
However, we want to go further. We choose website servers that make 100% renewable energy pledges. In addition to this, by the end of 2024 aim to start tree planting, to counter the energy used as a company.
-
A new initiative is to encourage our team to recycle their old clothes. We will pay for our team to take the time to sort through old clothes and take them to drop off points, supporting the homeless and those in women’s shelters.
-
We love gifts, especially beautifully designed ones, but they aren’t always good for the planet. Our initiative is to support a charity with a donation every Christmas as opposed to buying into the high carbon act of physical gift giving.
We also donate one week per year to charity and/or environmental agencies, be that design, digital on in person support, whichever they need.
supporting the Armed Forces community
working with:
armed forced covenant
Currently, 50% of the Hubble team are either Veterans, Armed Forces Spouses or Veteran Spouses so we understand the challenges faced within the Armed Forces Community. No member of the Armed Forces Community should face disadvantage in the provision of public and commercial services compared to any other citizen.
We recognise the value that serving personnel, reservists, veterans and military families bring to our business and to our country, and are looking to raise awareness with our client base.
to support the Armed Forces Community we:
Support Reservists, Veterans and Spouses by offering additional days of annual leave in order to carry out their duties.
Support our team by offering them August off – fully paid, on top of their holiday allowance which helps to mitigate stress from August posting moves and many serving military members set August holiday period.
Support the employment of Service spouses, partners and dependants, by: signing up to Forces Families Jobs; offering short-notice leave to those whose partners are sent on deployment; and working with the tri-Service Families Federations.
Work with relevant charities and the Career Transition Partnership to offer work opportunities to the Wounded, Injured and Sick.
Employ remote-working solutions that benefit the mobile Armed Forces Community, especially partners and spouses.
Promote the Armed Forces Covenant, the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme and our support for the Armed Forces Community.
Support or promote Armed Forces events.
Have an Armed Forces Champion within our organisation.
Signpost members of the Armed Forces Community to available support, for example from Cobseo, the Veterans’ Gateway or ssafa.
Ensure the Armed Forces Community has fair access to our services and is not put at a disadvantage by their service, for example as a result of their high mobility.
Suitable vacancies will be advertised using the Forces Families Jobs platform and any other relevant jobs boards which promote employment opportunities for veterans, service leavers and spouses.
wellbeing - a new approach
Hubble is proud to offer all of our team August off, paid on top of their annual holiday allowance… some may say it’s groundbreaking, we say it’s changed our business for the better!
Financially, childcare is such a barrier for parents to return to work, particularly juggling the summer holidays. As a team of working parents, we have decided to remove this financial burden, by giving our team full pay whilst spending quality time with their children during the summer holidays. This opens up job opportunities for those in economically deprived areas and with additional challenges such as being a defence spouse.
We hope to take away the emotional guilt felt by many parents, who feel that they would love to spend quality time with their children during the summer but can’t afford to not work. We also found that by giving the team an extended break they come back to work in September feeling energised and ready to give projects their all.

education and training
Hubble founder, Hannah created a branding and design workshop for children in 2023. This is now being taught in a small, remote primary school and we are looking to expand our reach during 2024.
…and community outreach
We volunteer up to 2 days per year in community outreach initiatives with Social Enterprise e50K. We do his to help them achieve their goal of creating a network of community projects across the UK Armed Forces' estate, to combat the widespread issues of social isolation, social deprivation and mental health & wellbeing.
